Member Spotlight: Kim Nason is currently a Literacy Specialist at Fallon Park Elementary School with Roanoke City Schools. Kim has been an educator for 28 years, working as a classroom teacher for kindergarten through 5th grade before getting her Masters in Literacy Education in 2018. She serves as Co-President of the Roanoke Valley Reading Chapter and was chosen as the 2021 VSLA Ofie T. Rubin Reading Teacher of the Year. Kim has always been passionate about reading, both in her professional life as an educator as well as in her personal life as a mother and grandmother. Her favorite part of teaching is building relationships with her students that inspire a lifelong love of exploring the world through books. Kim enjoys learning from other professionals in her local chapter and the Virginia State Literacy Association and is currently working on attaining her professional certification in leadership to further her ability to advocate for the importance of literacy education across the lifespan. In her time outside of school, Kim loves reading, walking her dog Maggie, and spending time with her family.
