Member Spotlight: Meet Amie Burkholder, a rising star in the Roanoke Valley Reading Council and this year’s nominee for Teacher of the Year! Aime has been teaching for 12 years in multiple roles (first grade, Title 1, Reading Specialist, and Literacy Coach). Her favorite part of teaching is that magical moment “when a struggling reader finally puts the pieces together and begins to read.” She continually strives to engage students in literacy activities and to plan literacy events for the whole family. By transforming classrooms into operating rooms, carnivals, glow-in-the-dark wonderlands, and camping adventures, Amie works hard to create those magical moments for her students and to help them grasp literacy skills. Way to go, Amie, for going above and beyond for your students and school!
